Linney team's underwater shoot promotes Avatar with Olympic swimmers

Linney’s Film and Animation team took immersive cinema to new depths to promote Avatar: The Way of Water for Cineworld.

The crew recruited Olympic medal winning swimmers Matt Richards and Alice Dearing for an underwater shoot to encourage film fans to watch the much-anticipated blockbuster at Cineworld’s IMAX, 4DX and ScreenX locations.

Matt and Alice were filmed swimming in the pool and watching the movie on different screens at Cineworld Sheffield. We hired specialist underwater camera-protection equipment for the Lenton pool shoot and dressed our director of photography in scuba gear to shoot the underwater scenes under the watchful eye of a certified divemaster.

An Olympic-sized swimming pool, complete with accurately modelled 3D swimmers and an IMAX logo on the floor of the pool, was created as a visual.
