Thinking inside the box

Pushing the envelope for Royal Mail

We've been pushing the envelope for Royal Mail with a quick turnaround campaign promoting a hi-tech makeover for the humble postbox.

An upgrade to some of Royal Mail’s 115,000 postboxes means that, for the first time, an extra-large opening will accept bigger parcels – with a solar panel lid powering a barcode scanner to open the box and register the item.

Out-of-home advertising, social media posts, animations, emails, web content, direct mail items and radio adverts featuring the message ‘Old box, new tricks’ are amplifying the convenience of the iconic red postboxes that are ‘just around the corner and always open’.

The launch of the new digital postboxes is the biggest change in their design since their introduction 175 years ago. So, it was an honour to be at the heart of a high-profile campaign with such historical significance.

The radio adverts, scripted by the Linney Writing team, produced and edited by Film and Animation and voiced by EastEnders star Zaraah Abrahams, built awareness among audiences tuning into stations across the Global network.

This was a quick turnaround project – from receiving the brief, we produced strategic direction and delivered the out-of-home and radio creative within a month. We really felt the magic happen at Linney with fantastic feedback from Royal Mail’s CCO.
