Our work on the UK’s biggest internal communications publication has been recognised with a national award.
An award-winning magazine
Linney writes, designs and publishes Courier, a quarterly magazine distributed to 150,000 Royal Mail colleagues. The publication was named Corporate Magazine of the Year at the 2021 CorpComms Awards, held at London venue The Troxy in November of last year.
A collaborative magazine for all colleagues
The Courier team works alongside Linney’s film crew, who delivers a weekly TV show for Royal Mail. This joined-up editorial approach means the teams share story ideas, allowing us to deliver complementary content across Royal Mail’s internal channels efficiently. QR codes within stories link readers to further information about the topics covered – whether in content-on-demand films, website articles or social media posts.
“The award judges identified Courier’s editorial panel, featuring postmen and women from across the UK contributing story ideas and sharing colleague feedback, as a key factor behind the win,” an account director told 1851. “Our panel of posties helps us continually sense-check our content to make sure it remains engaging and relevant.”
A refreshed approach to internal communications
We transformed Courier from a busy tabloid newspaper into a 44-page magazine with a mission to “update, inspire and celebrate”. This new look and feel allows for larger, vibrant images and in-depth features.
“We’re currently working on the sixth issue of a magazine that we believe is pushing the envelope in terms of internal communications within Royal Mail,” they added.
Our Courier team includes an account director, project manager, creative director, designer, photographers, an editor and writers working alongside Royal Mail's internal communications colleagues.
