Building on our expert food and beverage photography for clients, we held an onsite Creative Forum session with the renowned food artist Tom Cockerill.
The intricacies of food photography
To get the creative juices flowing the session offered the team the chance to learn more about the intricacies of this niche art form. Offering a behind-the-scenes look at the highs and lows of working in the food industry, Tom shared his experiences, including his time with Heston Blumenthal at The Fat Duck and styling food for hit series Peaky Blinders.
With his own business, Woodrow Studios, Tom now focuses on designing beautiful surfaces for food photography, which can be seen in some of the best-known cookbooks and food magazines – as well as the work we create for Linney food and drink clients.
Tom said: “My work has always involved food so the progression towards being a food creative involved in film, TV and photography seemed a natural progression for me after a career of nearly 20 years working in world-class multi-Michelin star kitchens.
“I really enjoyed the opportunity to talk about my niche creative business and how I ended up doing what I do.”
After Tom’s presentation, Creative Forum participants had the pleasure of using some of his bespoke surface art as food photography backgrounds to create flat-lay food masterpieces worthy of Instagram.
A creative invitation
The Creative Forums are held regularly and this hands-on workshop proved to be a hit. A Linney Create graphic designer said: “Discovering his journey to where he is now, followed by an opportunity to experiment and create our own Insta-worthy set-ups, was really exciting. His hand-crafted backgrounds were art in themselves. I even have one as my iPhone background now to keep the inspiration high.”
These events are always open to our clients and are ideal ways to gather industry insights and benchmarking. With many events being available to watch online, attendance is easy. Simply ask your Linney contact or request more information by contacting us.
