Royal Mail: our stamp of innovation
Linney brings 3D augmented reality crime scene to Royal Mail's Agatha Christie centenary stamps collection
We’re taking a novel approach to celebrations marking the centenary of crime author Agatha Christie’s first published story.
Royal Mail invited us to create a 3D animated version of the artwork on a special stamp featured in its new Agatha Christie collection.
The hidden elements within The Mysterious Affair at Styles stamp can only be revealed with a little digital detective work.
It’s one of six stamps in Royal Mail’s September series featuring scenes from Christie novels. Each contains a hidden secret in the form of microtext, UV ink, thermochromic ink or, in the case of The Mysterious Affair at Styles, augmented reality.
The Linney team used Hewlett-Packard’s AR platform Aurasma to create an immersive animation that adds an element of ‘where is it?’ to the ‘whodunnit?’ theme.
Using the Aurasma app, available through the iTunes App Store and Google Play, users can explore the scene being played out on the stamp – and are taken to the Royal Mail special stamps website when they tap the animation CTA.
Linney chose to partner with Aurasma due to its status as a global leader in augmented reality experiences. It picked up the Best Delivery Platform for Mobile award at the 2016 Mobile Excellence Awards.
The Mysterious Affair at Styles marked the debut appearance of much-loved Christie crime-fighter Hercule Poirot
The Agatha Christie special stamps collection launched on 15 September. Find out more.
